i have a sound system that has 3 cords to plugin.they're colored at the end and each cord is paired off into two speakers (sound system has 6 speakers). only speakers i used before for my computers has had a single green cord. this one has 3 cords (one black, one green, one pink).

how do i go about using all three cords and all three speakers? because my computer only has 2 audio plugins (its a laptop) one for sound, one for microphone. do i need an adapter or something, or what?

It sounds as if Your speaker system is a 5.1 system?

I would just try to use it as a 2 speaker system. Plug the Green Plug into the Green Speaker jack. On Your laptop the Pink jack should be for a microphone. So only use the green plug and jack.

Good Luck

what is the make and model of this laptop?

Most of the audio output on computers are stereophonic.  If you look at the plug from you 5.1 system you should see two separate sections at the end of the plug, this means that it is stereo.  The 5.1 system converts this to right and left front speakers and sub-woofer, and right and left rear speakers.
