As I posted in the general discussion I am having problems, possibly, with cws_ns3. Spysweeper detects it, but can't remove it, and CWShredder doesn't even see it. The primary symptom is that the hosts file in .../system32/etc/ keeps disappearing, and I need this file for a VPN client that I am using.

Here is the log:

Hi Eric,

Please download ServiceFilter.zip. This will reveal potential unauthorized running services in your system. Extract it to a new folder on your desktop. Double-click ServiceFilter.vbs. This script will create a text file named Post_This.txt in the same folder as the script itself has been saved - copy and paste the contents of Post_This.txt in your next reply here along with a new Hijackthis log.

From the moment you post your list, until you see a detailed fix written up, DO NOT reboot your system or log off. If you do, the service will have changed and the fix provided will not work

At this point we are going to back up and do a system re-instal, and then an upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro (since my last post, we've lost the ability to burn CDs - it may be related, or it may be that some software was deleted; it's a co-worker's computer). If the problems continue after that, I'll post another HJT Log and follow the next step recommended.

BTW - I'm VERY impressed with this site, and will be "hanging around" to learn a few things!
