Hello, I'm sorry to hear about this problem.

Have you tried to restart your computer once more after this happened? If so, and the black screen still appears, can you press Ctrl-Alt-Del and see if anything happens?

regards, Elise

Hello jonalyn... Windows 8 has a backup plan for just such an emergency called "System Restore". It will restore the critical, damaged system files on your computer without removing your programs or data files. I could post a lengthy response, but it will be easier to just follow the instructions HERE.  I suggest printing out the instructions so that you have them as your proceed. Remember that any passwords that you have changed since the last system restore point will be lost and revert to the previous.

Now, computers being the ornery critters that they are, if for some reason it doesn't work, post back and we will try to pull your data off the computer before any other procedures.

Also, just for your info, the only time to run Combofix is if you have a hopelessly virus-infected computer. This is a serious piece of antivirus software and can damage the system severly if used incorrectly, so if you have an infection I suggest that you post in the antimalware part of this forum and an expert will be along to help you.

I will monitor this thread, so post back with any problems.

[EDIT]: If the instructions in the link I provided seem a bit long, HERE is another site that is simpler. The first half is creating a system restore point, the last half is restoring the system from an date immediately before you had the problem.

Help Requests: If there is no reply after 3 days I remove the thread from my answer list. For further help PM me.
