Hi folks!

Please help me diagnosing this problem. Its always happening when utorrent is ON, PC restarts. I use a Dell Inspiron 1545, 3 GB RAM, Windows 8-32.

All files from WINDOWS\MINIDUMP:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/k3iv5b

Or BSOD.txt, generated by BlueScreenView:
https://mega.co.nz/#!pltEwDzL!Xr2WUFjbq_3kn7rbAQKAXSZEIscUvgDylkXcaXuGhuw

Speccy snapshot:

Minitoolbox report:
https://mega.co.nz/#!Npl20ITT!aoj-IUUjaaSwotBh756oZk9nuwcs4XbJlHERhrMk-k0

It's possible my Hard Drive also contains a few bad blocks, since the DELL DIAGNOSTICS reported this (and the Dell team responded):

Hard drive failure--replace the drive. You will have to reinstall your original windows and do the upgrade again.

Error code 0146
MSG ERROR CODE 2000-0146
MSG HARD DRIVE 0 SELF TEST LOG CONTAINS PREVIOUS ERROR(S)
HD DST SHORT TEST FAIL

But the fact remains that BSODs only happen when UTorrent is activated. So, even if the HDD has some bad blocks in it, let's say, less than 1%, those BSODs are probably caused by some driver or Windows/software issue, not just the HDD itself.

It was probably a mistake from my part to use Windows 8 in this machine. I should have stick with Vista or even XP SP3. All I know is those problems didn't happen with Vista.

Hi

Your hard drive is clearly failing and you will be need to replace it in the near future.

New HDD requires fresh Windows install so there is no point in trying to fix the BSOD. However, you can try the below steps as a test. Please backup all important data to an external medium before proceeding.

:step1: Run Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics.

1. Download "WD Data lifeguard Diagnostic" disc image from the below link.

2. Burn the image to a blank CD

3. Boot from the CD and run an Extended test. This will try to fix the bad sectors.

Only proceed to the next step if the Extended test is passed after repairs.

:step2: Disable Teredo tunneling protocol.

1. Open an elevated command prompt.

2. Enter the below command exactly and press Enter key.  Reboot the system when completed.

netsh interface teredo set state disabled

This may solve the issue with torrent. Please post your findings in next reply.

Hey there, when I boot from the CD, I only get the DOS prompt and a message saying drive not found, error 120. What does it mean?

Hi

You may need to temporally change the SATA mode to IDE from AHCI.  You can enter the BIOS setup by pressing F2 during  power on. I am not sure about the exact menu under which SATA options are listed but you may probably find it easily. After the test completes, make sure to revert the setting to it's original state. Otherwise Windows may not boot.

I did everything mentioned above but caldera loads and gives me a black screen (I managed to change the SATA mode). So no luck trying to boot + repair.

I even tried the Windows version from Data Lifeguard. After the extended test was completed, it said repairs could be done, but failed when trying to do so.

The netsh step was done. I hope no more BSODs from now on, but the HDD will be replaced as soon as possible.

Thank you for the assistance.
