it DOESN'T matter how big or small the folder I search for files in, it takes windows search a WHOPPING 1 - 3 minutes to even start showing files!!! I tried rebuilding the index MULTIPLE times and even ran Microsoft Fix-it for Windows Search and it finds NO problems!!!! this has been a problem for a few months and used it be instant and now takes 1 - 3 minutes to show even 1 file!!!!!

I don't use Windows search as I've been underwhelmed since Windows 98. So I don't have a fix for your initial problem. But if you want an alternative till you do find a fix, you could try Agent Ransack.
