i have an asus m3n78-vm and am tryin to take it from the AMD x2 5000+ to phenom x4 9650 .

it shows via the asus website that my mother board does support that chipset but when i install it and turn the pc on it powers the fans but nothing boots following that.

so i read on the asus website that it requires a certain version of bios, thinkin that may be the problem i updated the bios with my old processor in place yet it still does the same thing.

my question for you is, what is causing my computer to not boot at all ? i dont think that is BIOS related but i could be wrong, thanks in advance for any and all replies/help.

FWIW:

Specs

CPUs Supported

Appears to me that BIOS upgrade was not necessary, I have no idea why you are having problems.  Others here may know :).

You're running the 1801 BIOS?

Same boat as hamluis, I don't know.  Test new CPU in another board is next step.
