A windows update called "Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package" keeps coming back after installing it on windows update. I've installed it several times and the update history shows that is was successful seven times already but it's there again after reboot. Can someone give me some advice on what I should do?

Microsoft Support addresses this issue in this article.

When the site opens you will see the option to use the Fix it tool, you can click on this and it will attempt to resolve the problem.  Of you can close the Fix it window and use the instructions below to manually resolve the problem.

The fix it tool did not help. I ran it, the update was still there. I installed the update. Clicked check for updates, and it came back. 8th successful install >_> and it's still there.

Are you receiving a error message when this occurs?

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

 Checkmark the following checkboxes:

• List last 10 Event Viewer log

• List Minidump Files

Click on Go to start the scan.  Once it is finished highlight the text, copy it and paste it in your next post.

No. There is no error message. After installing it says it's successful. In the update history, it is also successful. All 8 of them say successful.
Here is the MiniToolBox:

Go to Microsoft Support and click on the Fix it tool.

There appears to be an error in the registry, the Fix it should correct this.

Have you tried uninstalling the updates?

Uninstall all of the Visual C++ updates, then download the update directly from Microsoft.

You should only uninstall the update which keeps repeating.

The first picture is all the C++ listed in Add/Remove programs. The second picture is the update I'm having issues with.

I apologize, I edited my last post to suggest that you only uninstall the update which keeps repeating, the ones in the second picture in your last post.

I downloaded it and ran it. I opened Windows Update and the 2005 one is still listed there, but there's a 2010 one after pressing check for updates. Installing to 2010 one now.

Okay. So I downloaded the 2010 update then the 2005 one and I'm not getting the 2005 one anymore. Problem solved.

Uninstalling the C++ in Installed Updates, and downloading the one from the website helped solve my problem. After restarting my computer, the update no longer appears and when I press check for updates, it doesn't appear either.

Thank you very much your help and quick replies dc3! :)
