I'm having an unusal problem where I can no longer get Windows to shut down. When I click the Start button and select Turn Off Computer... it will clock for a minute or two before presenting the dialog to turn off, suspend, etc...if I selected turn off it would eventually power off.
So for a while, I found a work around where I could use the task manager to shut down. This worked and would immediately turn the machine off. Now, neither works. It still takes a while to get the dialog using the Start button, but it never actually shuts off anymore. It will shut down explore.exe and all you will see is the wall paper. Sometimes it will go to the "Windows is shutting down screen" and hang there.
I've updated anti-virus (Avast) and done a PUP scan too. I believe I am clean of viruses/malware but something is hanging me up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
