Hi, I have a partition that is detected as raw by windows 7. I followed all the steps to run testdisk and it stills appears as raw in disk management. I ran Gsmartcontrol and got this output

Hi

I am afraid the drive surface developed severe bad sectors.

197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 74
SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1
Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error
# 1 Short offline Completed: read failure 90% 4716 545582091

Please run a file system integrity check using checkdisk

1. Identify the partition drive letter first.

2. Open an elevated  command prompt.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/windows-elevated-command-prompt/

3. Now enter the "Checkdisk" command. For example if the corrupted partition is E, use the below command.

    CHKDSK E: /X /R

It may take a while to complete depending on the size of partition.

SMART data shows too many bad sectors so the chances of successful recovery is very less.

Thanks Anshad Edavana for the fast reply. Im trying the method you suggested now.

The method you suggested is just a temporary solution to help me see my drive and get my files out?

Is the drive beyond repairable or there is still a chance to repair it? Appreciate your help.

chkdsk will search for bad sectors and recover the data and store it in another sector.  The corrupted or bad sectors can't be repaired.  If there are a lot of bad sectors this can be an indication of a failing hdd.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
