Hi people. I just got my xp computer formatted and wanted to try out some themes on it. So I patched my uxtheme file manually. Now I cant turn my computer on. The splash screen loads up fine, but after that I get two errors. Lsass.exe can't load and services.exe can't load. I click ok and continue. Then I get the welcome screen, and two more errors explorer.exe can't load and userinit.exe cant load. I click ok, and my pc just opens this blue background and stays there. The same happens with safe mode, except it gives me a choice between administrator and user, and instead of blue, shows a black screen witb safe mode written in 4 corners and some info on top.

I did not delete the uxtheme.dll files, and instead renamed them. Any way I can redirect these errors to find '_uxtheme.dll' or is there any to load my computer or something and rename theses again?

Please help, guys. Thanks.

Do you have access to a Windows XP CD to go into repair console, or can you get a Linux LiveCD to perform the change to those files. Also there is a small chance, that you could be infected depending on where you got the patched UXTheme File from.

I don't have XP CD, as the guy who formats my computer puts in a pirated version. I have no interest in buying Linux and would rather get it re-formatted. I got my patch from this website- http://www.belchfire.net/?showtopic=9001

I have sp2, and I downloaded the english version.
So is there no way to turn on xp? I have 2-3 files in my documents which I want to make a backup of if I get my computer formatted.

First of all, I would recommend that you stop going to that friend for computer repair help and instead go to best buy and buy a copy of windows if you want to use Windows.

Secondly, Linux is a free down operating system, and will allow you to access your files that you want backed up.

Using pirated software...violates the forum rules, link to such in my signature.

Excerpt:  "No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences."

Since you don't have a legal version of Windows, this topic is now closed.

If you have any questions about my actions...please contact me via PM.
