So my avast had previously gone over a few files where the paths could not be specified.

I decided to reboot and see if this would fix it so I rebooted and when my account logged in, a random window came up saying "Updates have been successfully applied, you can go offline now". It had the options for "cancel" or "run".

Really nervous about this as I have no idea what would be making that window pop up.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Hermesx

Edit: Checked event viewer, shows that cvhsvc.exe gave 2 warnings near the time of login so hopefully this is just me being paranoid.

I had recently installed Microsoft Word and it says on BC that this is possibly part of Microsoft Office and such so hopefully nothing is wrong. :)

Run (schedule) a full boot-time scan on you rig to see if Avast can find anything prior to the OS actually loading. Set your heuristic sensitivity to high, schedule the scan, and reboot. See if it finds anything. Good luck.

Ran a boot-time scan with high heuristic sensitivity just like you asked, no virus found.

Well, from where I sit, that would be good enough for me; however, there are those that may think differently so sit tight and see if any other forum members have additional comments or suggestions. BTW, I trust Avast and have been using it forever and a day! I have been warned many times of an infected (impending) download but I've always been given the option to escape to safety. With that said, I have never been infected; period. However, I'm sure there are other Avast users that have not been so lucky. Good luck from here on.

Hello Hermesx,

where the paths could not be specified.

These can be orphaned files, perhaps by malware removal. Would need the whole path.

cvhsvc.exe gave 2 warnings... This can possible be from a Rogue AV infection..

I would like to run these and be sure there is no infection.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop.
  • Extract (unzip) its contents to your desktop.
  • Open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory (usually C:\ folder) in the form of TDSSKiller_xxxx_log.txt. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • .
    .
    .
    ADW Cleaner
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Delete.
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
  • Last run ESET.
  • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
  • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
  • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png icon on your desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
  • Scan potentially unwanted applications
  • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
  • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

I am currently running those tools, I am a little wary about minitoolbox though as your instructions talk about my ip configuration and other things.

Is it extremely necessary to post the results of this tool? I have already ran it so it has flushed my DNS.

Also: Here is the AdwCleaner log:  * Renamed my PC to Hermes to maintain privacy *

You can delete the items you are uncomfortable with .,but there is nothing personally identifiable posted there.
