Fairly recently my desktop running Windows 8 Pro has been bluescreening with the error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (tcpip.sys)" and after googling it all I could come up with is to send a dump file to someone to analyse. The only time this really happens is when I watch a video on youtube in full screen at 1080p resolution.

System specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.1GHz, NVidia Geforce 550 TI, Seagate 1TB HDD, 2GB RAM, not sure about my motherboard.

Any help is very much appreciated because I have tried to do a refresh and it won't work. (BTW I was running the refresh using a downloaded copy of windows because I upgraded without a disc.)

Use "WhoCrashed", which you can download from majorgeeks.com donwloads.  It will give you a better easier to read format on the dump log, from the bsod.  Majority of the times it is a bad driver or failing hardware, that causes the Blue Screen.

Please perform the following, so that we can get the exact specs of your computer. This will better assist us in helping you more.

Publish a Snapshot using Speccy

The below is for those who cannot get online

Please take caution when attaching a text file to your post if you cannot copy/paste the link to your post, you will need to edit it to make sure that your Windows Key is not present.

Please download MiniToolBox, and save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:

Flush DNS
Report IE Proxy Settings
Reset IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
Reset FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Post the output from Who Crashed along with the Speccy info.  HAL is the Keyboard & Mouse part of the OS.  Need the exact error message from Who Crashed, that also would be the BSOD that shows up on the screen.

I am going to make a gamble on this, but I am betting the machine is infected, and that you should first follow the Malware info steps, before going any further.  Another is the Anti-Virus/Internet Security software on the machine is causing it.

Also from a Command Window as the Administrator (Windows key & the X key from the desktop will bring up a context menu, then choose "Command Prompt (Admin)), then type in the following without the quotes "sfc /scannow" and let run.  Post the results from that also.

And lastly, the WhoCrashed result.

Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\Minidump

Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

On Mon 9/30/2013 4:25:46 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\093013-15896-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: tcpip.sys (tcpip+0x80A32)
Bugcheck code: 0xD1 (0x0, 0x2, 0x0, 0xFFFFFFFF88EA5A32)
Error: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: TCP/IP Driver
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode driver attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.

On Mon 9/30/2013 4:25:46 PM GMT your computer crashed

I believe I posted the results from MiniToolbox at 8:21 AM (at least for me). It was a fairly long text file.

I'm going to be busy until somewhere around 2 or 3 today so I will respond after that time.

I downloaded the driver for your wireless card, and it seems like that there is no Windows 8 support for it, and that could be causing your tcpip.sys to cause a blue screen.

That's not good about the wireless card becuase I need this desktop to be wireless right now. I have a belking usb wireless adapter I could use, but its connector got bent so now it's a little finicky when I have it plugged in.

Since that is just an add-on Wireless adapter, get a new one.  The Trendnet 300mb are pretty cheap now days.  No need to keep using that old Netgear adapter.

I ran into this same issue with hardware on a Acer Aspire a0532h netbook, that there was a Intel hardware issue, not compatible with Windows 8.  Ended up just rolling it back to 7, when I gave the machine to my daughter.  For some reason, Intel hardware is not playing nicely with Windows 8, from what a lot of people like myself have found out.

As a troubleshooting measure, could you try using the onboard NIC and see if you get the BSOD?
