If you go to classic control panel and open the Uninstall a Program control panel, it will list all the installed programs and when they were installed.

There is not a real way of finding out.  You can use Event Viewer and filter for MSInstaller.  Expand Windows logs, then highlight Application, then in the right pane click "Filter current log", select MSInstaller.

Windows 8 is no different than Windows XP/Vista/7, after you peel away that dorky Metro interface and get into the desktop mode.  You have to do everything from Desktop, if you want to use it as a computer, not a Blamer headache, which Metro has been nothing for people.

Even with 8.1 "giving" back the option to go back to Desktop, you still end up back in Metro, if you want to look at "All Programs".  I ended up using Start8 on both of my machines, because all I do is work out of the Desktop, and have no reason to be in the Metro dork interface.
