I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, about 7 years old, that began freezing up on me yesterday afternoon. I had not installed any new programs or the like when the issue began. I was on firefox, it was working fine one moment, then the next, it froze up.While I was still able to move the mouse cursor around, it was unresponsive to clicking, ctrl-alt-del, etc.I tried re-booting several times, and each time, it would boot up very slowly and work for only a few minutes before freezing again. Given that we had recently had issues with spyware/malware, I tried booting in safe mode and running anti-virus programs (AVG, Super Anti-Spyware and Malware Bytes). AVG found 3 viruses/issues which it removed, but other than that, the scans came up clean.

Separately, I had also noticed a DLL error message at boot-up ("C:\Windows\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\DLCCtime.dll Missing entry: Run DLL entry) - which I am to understand is related to a no-longer-installed Dell printer. So I ran CCleaner to clean the regsitry and removed the Dell printer and drivers through the control panel. Obviously, this did not fix the freezing issue. Subsequently, I tried a system restore back to 9/24, when the laptop was working fine, which also did not work. At this point, I am out of answers and appreciate any help offered. Thanks!

Please...do not use the "registry cleaning" function of Ccleaner or any other program.  That's just an invitation for trouble that could be avoided and BC does not support any use of "registry cleaners/optimizers" in any Windows system.

Registry cleaner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registry_cleaner

Since you don't have the issues in safe mode...my guess would be that it's a driver issue.  Only the most essential drivers load in safe mode.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it

You have a Trend Micro driver, tmtdi, which tries to run at startup...and you also have AVG drivers starting at boot.  My guess it that one of these creates a conflict within Windows which causes your problems.

Installed programs:

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 12 (Version: 12.7)
     AVG 2014 (Version: 14.0.3604)
     AVG 2014 (Version: 14.0.4117)
     AVG 2014 (Version: 2014.0.4117)

McAfee Security Scan Plus (Version: 3.0.318.3)

I suggest that you uninstall all of these (since the files may be damaged), then reboot and use Microsoft Security Essentials and the Windows Firewall.  If you continue to have problems after uninstalling the suspects...I will be surprised...but ready to look for other suspects.

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx

No installation required.

Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.

Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to know location.

You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type:
