It's a Lenovo 400s 4gb ram pentium three 9600 and it is driving me nuts...always the blue wheel spinning regardless of running only one program.

I have defragged, lessened the start-up services, attempted to reduce the backround services (but that usually ends up in the blue screen of death) and there must be something I can do.  I am typing now from my trusty old Toshiba Tecra with XP and boy I wish it weren't being phased out next year.

Am at a loss.

For some odd reason I also cannot access Resource Monitor...just get the blue wheel...Windows Defender is also not running for some reason even though the default start is auto.  Am using Microsoft Security Essentials and am not quite sure if that is the same thing.

Ran Malwarebytes and no problems.

Am about to throw this computer out the window.  Any ideas what to do?

Thanks,

Madison

Well...the data reflects a single 3GB RAM module installed.  If you paid for 4GB, you need to contact the vendor.  Minimum RAM installed on T400 is 2GB, with a max of 8GB.

Looks to me as if you have a hard drive problem, moving topic to Internal Hardware where the more knowledgeable can confirm/refute my suspicions.

Thanks Louis:  BTW I had 2 allegedly 2gb ram cards installed.  I just bought a compatible single 4gb ddr3 and installed and got the blue screen of death.  Removed, put back in the original card and now it's in start-up "system repair" mode.  There is nothing I can do with this computer which doesn't insist I roll back to system restore...and then it still puts up a fight.

Does anyone, after seeing the information I posted last night have any ideas?

Just a blonde and short on geek-genes,

Madison
