Turn on laptop and windows won't load. Goes right to error page saying wdfldr.sys missing or corrupt. It won't go into safe mode or anything. I tried vista re cd but it's not fixing the problem

Have you installed or used any registry cleaner, registry optimizer, disk optimizer, etc, in the last week or so prior to this problem, as this is about the most direct reason for corrupting this file.

Questions related to wdfldr.sys
If you've recently been getting errors with wdfldr.sys it's recommend you unisntall or re-install any programs recently that may have generated this error. If this does not resolve your issue or you have not installed any program recently try recovering Windows back to a earlier copy.

Where can I download wdfldr.sys?
Because the wdfldr.sys file is a Windows Operating System file it is not recommend you download this file from any website. If this file is missing, it is likely other Windows related files are also missing, we suggest re-installing Windows to make sure your issue is correctly resolved.

The only given solution (I can find) is a full system reinstall -

Thank You -

Hello,

Can you please tell me what steps you tried using the Vista RE? The recommended fix here would be to try system restore to restore your computer to a state before you installed Norton.

regards, Elise

Can you boot successfully into safe mode with networking? pressing F8 at startup should  give you this option. If you can and you feel like a challenge, download the Norton Removal Tool , run it and see if you can boot. If not, repeat, and download the MacAfeeRemoval tool  and see if this fixes the problem.

Otherwise, take it to a pro.

In their first post they state that they cannot boot into Safe Mode.

Oops, yes, sorry. Long day :-)

I split and stacked two cords of oak firewood today.  Then applied a coating of a elastomeric paint to the roof of my mobilehome.  I sir, have had a long day. :thumbup2:
