Hello,

I was ready to reimage my machine until someone led me to this site. My internet explorer has be goofy for the last 2 weeks. Likely a virus, but I can't find it. A bunch of new programs suddenly appeared as of the 7th of September. PC fix, otShot, flashplayer were asking for updates. Also, request for outlook contacts. Very scary. I removed/ uninstalled these programs, but they are still there in the background. My McAfee and Symantic are installed but are not capturing anything.

I booted in safemode to thoroughly remove the junk programs.

Any help or ideas

Thanks

I suggest you post this problem in the 'Am I infected . . .' section of BC.  These people are speciallists at this sort of problem, but remember they are all volunteers and it may take a day or two for someone to get back to you.

They will run you through various tests, scans and so on. Follow their instructions, and if you don't understand something, post back and ask for clarification.

Hello and Welcome -

Please run these scans first so we can look for problems -

Download Security Check by Screen317
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: If any security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
* Flush DNS
* Report IE Proxy Settings
* Reset IE Proxy Settings
* Report FF Proxy Settings
* Reset FF Proxy Settings
* List content of Hosts
* List IP configuration
* List Winsock Entries
* List last 10 Event Viewer log
* List Installed Programs
* List Devices (Only Problems)
* List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
* List Minidump Files
* List Restore points
NOTE: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Click GO and Copy / Paste the result, (Result.txt) from your desktop

Please ask if you need any help - - -

Thank you -
