My Lenovo G570 began to randomly restart once or twice a day about a week ago. It stopped for a few days and then started doing it again. I don't get a BSoD, it just restarts and gives me the screen where you choose whether to start Windows in safe mode or not.

I have no idea what's causing this. I added an additional 2GB of RAM almost 2 months ago and ran Memtest then. There weren't any issues, and the restarts only started happening recently so I don't think it's RAM related. Other than that though I haven't got a clue so any help would be appreciated. :)

I'm not noticing any over heating according to the logs, so I don't believe that's the issue.

You can try to update your bios. You are running version 40CN07WW(V2.06) and the newest version is 40cn33ww.

Please go here to download the .exe to update your bios. You may have to select the fields to choose your laptop.

Useful information!
*Installation Instructions*

  1. Restart computer.

  2. Locate the file 40cn33ww_64.exe that has been downloaded.

  3. Double click the 40cn33ww_64.exe. For Vista and Windows 7, you may run it as administrator by right-clicking on the icon and selecting "Run as administrator".

  4. Click Install.

  5. Click Flash BIOS.

  6. Press Enter to start flashing. During the process, you are advised not to turn off the computer.

  7. When the update finishes, the computer will automatically reboot for the changes to take effect.

  8. Enter to BIOS menu, load default setting-> save and exit.

  9. Please reboot the system again.

I don't see anything which provides a clue.

You have uTorrent installed...which means, IMO, it's always possible that you have downloaded/installed malware via "free" torrents.

The hard drive temp and SMART data raise no flags.

None of your Event Viewer errors tell me anything other than the fact that Windows/the system is messed up.

Please check to see if your system is configured to generate dump files on BSODs, rather than reboot.

If so...do a searcfh using *.dmp as the string...for any .dmp files on the system.  If you have some, let us know.

First thing I did was an antivirus scan. I then redownloaded Malwarebytes and did a scan with that as well, it all came up clean.

I disabled the automatic restart on BSoD so a dump file does get created, but I can't find the "Memory.dmp" file it should create. I did find:

C:\Windows\Minidump\081113-48251-01.dmp

C:\Users\Hibbah\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\v2wnsa84.default\minidumps\83f1dad5-96fe-42f4-9c05-55fe49dd5229.dmp

Those files mentioned are the memory dumps, good :).

Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html .

Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file.

When autoscan is done (screen comes up), click Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.
\

Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt, copy all content and paste it into your next reply.

I don't think this is related to the crashes, since it's a good month before they started, but pasting it just in case.

Please...move the other two .dmp files into the Minidump folder then rerun BlueScreenView and post the results.

It looks exactly the same. BlueScreenView doesn't seem able to read them. Aren't they related to Firefox and Guild Wars 2 crashes anyway rather than the whole OS?

I have no idea what they are related to or what info they contain...if I can't read the contents.

IME...BlueScreenView reads .dmp files, even if from another system. once placed in the proper location.

They're all in the Minidump folder. I even redownloaded BSV but it still only loads the one I pasted before.

The Guild Wars 2 .dmp file wasn't created on this laptop anyway, it just got copied over from my PC.
