I have been with the same service provider for my business site for years.  Service was okay at first but the past few months has been a horror.  I went online to pay my fee yesterday and my password didn't work.  Then I requested a new password and that one didn't work.  Then my site was offline.  (It's still good for another week.)  The live chat for the company wasn't working in the morning (8:30 AM) and I had to TRY and sort this out via emails.

My website is my main source of attracting business.

I asked what was going on and got an answer that I didn''t understand...I had 'old DNS' and they were going to replace it with 'new DNS.'  My msgs to support started coming back as undeliverable and I noticed something in the return that Apache was blocking my address.  They denied that and finally when I sent them my IP address, they got me back up and running.

This has happened three times over the past 2-3 years.

So now I need a new service and fast.  The problem is it's hard to evaluate who is good.  I read the reviews and can't help but wonder who wrote the positive and negative adds.  I don't know who runs the website that rates these providers.

Can anybody recommend reliable web hosting or a review site that is dependable?

I spend about $60/yr for my service and that's about where I want to stay.

I have to jump to another service very soon.

Thanks.

I have used 1&1 for my business websites for about 10 years now. They have never failed me and their customer support is generally decent though I rarely have to use it. http://www.1and1.com - This is just my personal experience and opinion :)

Since this can be a locally influenced decision have you asked other people you know or other local businesses with comparable web-sites who they use ?  Might be helpful.
