Hello and thank you in advance for any help you can offer! My PC had been running great until my Norton 360 subscription ran out and since I'm upgrading my system soon, I thought it best to just download a free AVAST until I do upgrade. Since then after an installation of Skype, OtShot downloaded itself along with Skype and although I removed it from my PC, it still attempts to initialize everytime I boot up. I've noticed an increasing ammount of issues with my PC, scoping from online gaming latency issues, difficulty installing updates or applications from discs, internet connection dropoffs, toggling from being connected to local only to no available connections then right back to normal connections. I realize this might be a hardware issue, but I've also very recently had trouble with my keyboard, specifically the "L", "O", ".", keys as well as my arrow keys and some numpad numbers. I wouldn't have even mentioned this issue, but I've replaced my keyboard twice since the issue began, each with a brand new one and it still persists, although only intermittently. Also, my system as a whole, whether browsing, gaming, or working (compiling data for my grad project) has been running very noticably slower. Please help!

Uninstall OtShot in the Control Panel.

Please download AdwCleaner and run it.

An image like the one below will open, click on Search.

adwcleaner_zpsb078b5ee.png

Once the search is complete a log similar to the image below will be displayed.

adwcleanerlog_zpsffbc5abe.png

Minuize this image so that you can see the first image, then click on Delete.

You will receive a message telling you that all programs will be close so that the infections can be removed.  Click on Ok.

The scan will now start.  When it is finished it will present a log of what was deleted.  Please post this log.

How to post the log.

Right click on the Start orb startorb_zps06e1f985.png

Then click on Open Windows Explorer.

Click on the C: drive.

Scroll down till you find AdwCleaner [S1] and double click on the log to open it.

adwcleaner2_zps924e5e92.png

Copy and then paste the log in your next post.

Please download and run Junkware Removal Tool.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
  • Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Reagardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

While we're at, you might as well get rid of Norton.  Please download and run the Norton Removal Tool.

Hiya Arach, thank you so much for taking the time to help! I genuinely appreciate it! A few things you should know: Since my previous posting, my Avast picked up and quarantined JS:Agent-CFI in my Appdata/LocalLow/Sun folder. I was able to remove Otshot, but I had to cancel it's process in Task Manager (needed to check processes from ALL users) and then hard delete it from my program data. Wouldn't allow me to before. It's gone now and no longer starts up when I boot up!  AdwCleaner Log to follow:

Just a quick update: My working performance has increased considerably, but that may have been because I had an 11% fragmentation of my hard drive, that I defragged last night. I had Norton 360 which did that automatically for me and since it's subscription expired about six weeks ago, my MS defragger took about four hours to complete. My other issues persist, though: keyboard, updates and internet sporadic inconsistency. Thank you again for looking into this! Hope you're having a great evening!

Good Morning Arach, sorry for the delayed response. I ran both scans you requested, but as you said might happen, the SFC scan did stop permanently after the integrity scan (which there were no problems found within) Hope you have a great day, today. Thank you again for all the help. Still having dodgy internet connection, but my system is running as fast as it ever has.

Also, be advised: Task manager has up to THREE applications of iexplorer running when I don't have a single iexplorer open, they soak up quite a bit of my memory and eventually crash out my connection when I DO open an iexplorer window. Then when my connection is killed, their memory usage skyrockets!

Type services.msc in the Search box and press Enter.

Scroll down to DHCP client.  Is it Started and set to Automatic?

If it is not, double click on DHCP and click on the down arrow in the Startup type: and set it to Automatic.

Hey DC3! Hope you've having a great weekend! I ran that services.msc and everything is as it should be. DHCP client is started and set to Automatic. Beginning to think this is a hardware issue. If there is anythingn I can do, please let me know! Thank you again for everything!
