Hello to the forum. I have been having almost the exact same issue with my G74sx. I even did the full ASUS restore and after all updates were applied the error came back. I think my error is the same as Snelk's, It is also pretty amazing his issue start roughly the same time mine did about two three months ago. Currently the machine is with Geek Squad and of course they have no clue. Once I get the machine back I am going try the step posted here. That is if Snelks issue is truly resolved. Great read BTW.. thank you for all the posted.

No, I have not experienced the issue since downgrading the graphics driver and removing KB2670838.  Also, I have since upgraded to the most recent version of the driver offered by Asus from here. Which is listed as version 9.18.13.1100.02 by Asus but is version 311.00 if you use Nvidia's numbering. Again, still no recurrence.

Honestly, it would probably be safe upgrading to the latest WHQL certified driver which is version 320.49 released on July 1st of this year, but version 311.00 works fine and I never really noticed any increase in performance when I originally had that driver installed anyway.
