System Won't Start

First off, my system specs are written up in  my signature.

 

I almost always leave my computer running - just shut it down to do routine cleaning. When I went in to get online this morning, I had a "No Input" message on my monitor. I checked the cable, it was seated snugly. However, I could hear the computer trying to power up, which was immediately followed by the sound of fans winding down. It does that over and over, winding up then down. It never even makes it to the splash screen, let alone the BIOS screen. I was told by someone a few minutes ago that it sounds like a simple PSU failure, but I'd like to get an opinion from folks here before I try to do anything. Any and all help would be appreciated.

PSU or possibly an overheating CPU. Is the CPU heatsink attached securely and the fan working?

Interestingly, the computer had been powered down for a couple of hours. I turned it back on, and it runs fine now. While it was powered down, I did clean the dust filters in front and in back as well as all fans, so I'm wondering if perhaps there wasn't enough air flowing in and something was overheating. is that a possibility? Opinions anyone?

I would save up for a new PSU just in case. Could just be the first sign of an imminent failure...

Just to update, everything has been working fine. I did buy a backup PSU just in case, but I suspect that what happened is that I got too complacent with my case. I wasn't paying attention to dust buildup on the vent screens and other places where air can flow into it. I need to heed my own advice to others and be religious about keeping things clean.
