Hello all,

this is my first post here, so bear with me if i missed some formatting style you like.

I have an issue with an older xp laptop i was removing MEE from. During the course of removing mcafee encryption, i forgot a step and bricked the computer. The issue is i forgot to reboot, so when i went to remove the setup files, the registry entries were removed them from the Bartpe virtual registry, and not from the hard drive.  I don't have a setup disk for xp, or the know how to edit the hard drive registry from within Bart Pe.

I need a way to edit the registry values from a registry not running, either from a bootable usb or cd. I have no ability to log into windows at all and the value i need to change is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GinaDLL.

I tried this solution "http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/212597/edit-registry-of-a-slave-hard-drive/" however i couldn't not get to the system32 folder to actually look for the correct hive the windows folder is blank with no option to continue. I also started with this solution https://community.mcafee.com/message/129109#129109, however i do not have the ability to make a new bart pe disk with the custom registry editor plug-in

Any ideas on how to fix this without a complete new install? this is research pc with data and apps that can't easily be replaced.

Please see Recommending ISOs of Windows Recovery Discs or pre-made ISOs of WinPE-BartPE - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic382841.html .

You can load the registry onto another working system...and edit it on that system.  Some of the following may be useful:  Links.

Hi

I recommend Kaspersky Rescue disc for easy offline registry editing. You can download it from the below link.

http://rescuedisk.kaspersky-labs.com/rescuedisk/updatable/kav_rescue_10.iso

Once you booted from the CD, just double click on the Kaspersky Registry Editor icon. It will automatically load all the registry hive files and display in the vary familiar Windows Registry Editor like interface.
