Windows update trying to install same Security Updates for Microsoft Office 2007 over and over again

The issue affects Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7/8/8.1.

These are some of the updates posted by various users at MS Community forum.

KB2810048
KB2760411
KB2760588
KB2760583
KB2760590

The first 10 pages of the above topic are mostly complaints.

Temporary solution: If the updates are listed in Installed Updates, just hide them until Microsoft releases a fix.

How to hide Unwanted Updates on Windows Vista

Microsoft has now included the following text under the heading "More information" in some of their KB articles:

KB2760411 - Known issues with this security update
•You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

KB2760588 - Known issues with this security update
•You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

KB2760583 - Known issues with this security update
•You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > View Installed Updates and if listed, remove the repeating updates. After doing that, hide each update.

Edit: Appears MS Office 2003 updates are doing the same thing.

Microsoft Offers Statement on KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583 Updates

“We’ve received reports of some customers experiencing issues when deploying some of September’s Office-related updates. We are investigating this issue and will act accordingly, to help ensure that our customers are protected,” Dustin Childs, group manager, Microsoft Trustworthy Computing, said in a statement.

In the meantime, users who want to temporarily fix the problems are recommended to uninstall the faulty updates and then hide them from the Windows Update section of the built-in Control Panel.

September 2013 Office Update: Targeting and Repeated Offering

Since the shipment of the September 2013 Security Bulletin Release, we have received reports of updates being offered for installation multiple times, or certain cases where updates were not offered via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).

We have investigated the issue, established the cause, and we have released new updates that will cease the unnecessary re-targeting of the updates or the correct offering of these updates.

If you had hidden the updates and go to Windows update (Customize) now...you most likely will receive the following:

No high-priority updates for your computer are available. To select other updates, use the options to the left.

Out of the 3, I uninstalled 2 and the third one wasn't found on my system. It seems like Microsoft re-released 2 updates on the 13th. I installed them an hour ago and they installed fine. Checked to see if there were any new Windows updates and it came back with nothing.
