Hello, we see a weird behaviour after restoring files from a Acronis Backup to a folder.

We are about upgrading the Computers to Win7.

The Process is:
Make an Image from the client with Acronis 11.0.17440 to external USB HDD.
Clean Harddisk
Install win7.

Up to then all is fine, the system boots after Post (Windows is loading) without delay.

Then we restore the Files from the Image on USB HDD to a local Folder c:\OldData via Boot CD.

After this the System has a delay of ~ 2 Minutes after post with a blinking white cursor, until 'Windows is Loading' appears.

This behaviour also persists if we delete this folder, restore without acl's and so on, so it is
unreversible.

How to Fix this ? Thanks!

Did you clone the entire hdd, operating system and all?

Clean Harddisk

Does this mean that the hdd was wiped?

What was the original operating system, and what version was it, 32-bit or 64-bit?

What version is Windows 7?

Hello,

the entire HDD was cloned, OS and MBR, but the Restore was Files only.

The HDD was fully wiped with DD on Linux.

The Original OS is WinXP x86.

Windows 7 is x64.

Thanks!

Since this is a very recent installation I would suggest wiping the hdd and reinstall Windows 7, this would be the simplest way to go about this.

You mentioned the XP mbr being cloned, was this one of the files that you loaded in the file on Windows 7?

Were the rest of the files loaded personal data, not Windows XP files?

A Win7 Reinstall is not possible. A colleague of mine made the Installaton on about 20 PCs. He didn't notice the fault. I don't want to reinstall 20 Client Computers.

The XP mbr was not restored, only the personal files.

We found out there is a difference between using the boot-disc of Acronis and the windows client. The Problem only occurs if we use the boot-disc to restore the files.

Anybody some suggestions?

Thanks!

Acronis is buggy like this... I've also had issues with it.

I feel for you as I'm also mass upgrading machines but didn't go this route, instead opting for using windows easy transfer.

If this is still an option for you (if your old system images will boot) I'd go that way. It also has options for keeping application data/settings, and will find the right place for them on the new 64bit OS's.

Hi,

i use EasyTransfer too, but to save all the files in the old system my boss wants ne to make a full file restore of the old system.

This is now working, my problem is how to fix the computers with the blinking cursor!

I think the blinking cursor is due to 32 bit system files being injected into a 64 bit system :scratchhead:

In which case there is no easy solution... No syswow64 on xp so no translation with Acronis "re-installing" the files. It's bound to bleep up.

One would need a log of what exactly Acronis did to find what went wrong...

or, (I know it sounds dumb) you could try sfc & startup repair. It's a duzey of a problem.

Have you looked in the Event Viewer to see what errors are appearing in there?

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

 Checkmark the following checkboxes:

• List last 10 Event Viewer log
• List Installed Programs
• List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
• List Minidump Files

Click on Go to start the scan.  Once it is finished highlight the text, copy it and paste it in your next post.

My apologies for not getting back to you yesterday.  My wife has medical treatments every other Tuesday which takes up most of the day.

@TsVk!: The restore is only made on fille-base, we restore the whole files into an folder named "old disc", so there is no problem with an "injection" ;)

@dc3: I'm at home now, will try tomorrow, but i think it is not an Windows Problem.

---

What I found out: If i kill the bcd the Cursor is still there and a startup error occurs later , if i kill the mbr there is no Cursor and a startup error occurs immediate.

So it mus be something between the mbr and the bcd - What could be there?

If this is happening with all of the computer that were upgraded, then I most certainly would believe it is Windows related.

I think Acronis does anything to the bootloader or the mbr or something between.

Anyway here is the Result:

The log is in German, I do not speak German.

Because of this language barrier I was only able to search for the errors found.

990x80041003  Microsoft has addressed this here.

%%1311  is related to a missing source file in Office 2007

0x80072F8F  is Windows 7 activated in these computers?  This error is related to problem activating Windows 7.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Hello,

990x80041003  Microsoft has addressed this here
I tried the FixIt, but it didn't solve the Problem.

%%1311  is related to a missing source file in Office 2007

This also could be a Domain Authentication Error.

0x80072F8F  is Windows 7 activated in these computers?  This error is related to problem activating Windows 7.

This is an Windows Update Error we have since we installed and implemented our WSUS-Server - BTW: The Coumputers are activated.
