Dell Latitude D610 laptop with Windows 7. Ran very well until a few weeks ago. Now the Task Manager shows CPU Usage 100% for an extended period of time. I don't see an unusual programs in the process list under Task Manager.  Ran Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware, they didn't find anything.  Minitoolbox and Speecy results below. Thanks for your help.

No obvious hardeare/heating issues.

I would uninstall the Lexmark printer...disable Windows Indexing...run the chkdsk /r command...and see if the errors/usage continues.  My experience with lexmark printers is that the services go off the rails occasionally.

I would also uninstall, then reinstall/update/run SUPERAntiSpyware.

You seem to be running 2 backup programs...Acronis True Image and Iomega QuikProtect.  I would remove the Iomega software completely..  You also seem to have a number of Roxio programs installed...I would remove all which don't relate to burning.

From processes running per Speccy:

QpMonitor.exe     Domain:  NT AUTHORITY      Path: C:\Program Files\Iomega\QuikProtect\QpMonitor.exe   Memory Usage: 4.63 MB     Peak Memory Usage: 5.68 MB

Hi, One thing else I would do beyond Louis's excellent suggestions is bring up the Task manager and sort the CPU tab so that it shows what process is using the most CPU. CTRL + ALT + DEL , then choose Task manager should get You there.

This what the Windows 8 from this computer looks like as an example

Good Luck

Louis & Roger, thanks for your help. My laptop is back to normal. MsMpEng.exe was the cause of my CPU maxing out. Something with Windows defender. I disabled that. Also, got rid of Lexmark and Iomega from my services list. I needed a program called Autoruns to get rid of them. That took a couple of hours, whew! Anyhow, thanks again!  :thumbup2:
