Immediately after installing Kaspersky virus protector my CD drive no longer works. It spins but does not play. I tried to uninstall Kaspersky but it still doesn't work. Is this a coincidence or did the program wreck something? BTW, I read where this happened to someone else.

Thanks

Can you see the optical drive in Computer?

Is there an error (yellow exclamation mark or red X) next to CD/DVD-ROM in the Device Manager?

When you double click on the CD/DVD drive in the Device Manager does this optical drive appear?

If you double click on the optical drive does it show This device is working properly?

Also, the drive will not open without putting a paper clip in the little hole next to it. No light is on.

Go to the Start orb, click on Computer, right click on the optical drive, then click on Open.

Does this work?

message said "insert CD" and there was a CD in the tray. I used a paper clip to eject and tried again...same message. Then an error message came on saying an error occurred while ejecting.

If you can try this drive in another computer I would do so.

Do you think that the drive is gone? Is it worth getting someone to look at it?

Did you click inside the topic replay box, then right click and paste?

There is information in the Speccy which you may not appreciate, but will help us to better understand what is going on.
