Hi, my Sony viao laptop got virus and I decided to do a freash clean install of win 7. The first thing i did since I dont have a recovery disk was to download win7 and burn it to make a bootable dvd.

When I know do a re-installation, after it finish loading the files, it will show the win7 logo and after like 10mins it will show only a black screen and a cursor, If i am not mistaken it should show me the win7 menu.

any help is appreciated

Thanks

It's been a while since I last had to rebuild a Sony Vaio, but they normally come with a recovery partition so that you can restore them to an 'ex-works' condition in the event of disaster.

You will need to check with the manual - if you don't have a paper copy you can get it from the Sony website so long as you have the model number - but I think you get to it by pressing the F5 key at startup and then following the on-screen instructions. As the recovery system formats the C:\ drive as part of the recovery, this should also resolve your virus problem.

A black screen with a blinking cursor usually indicates that the system cannot find a hard drive with a bootable partition, but this normally happens before you get to the Win 7 logo - the screen where it says 'Starting Windows' and the MS flag appears.

I would suggest you put the disc back in the drive and see if the computer will boot from the disc and do a 'Repair install'.
