With help from I'm infected I have solved my problem with the Dept. of Justice virus.

Before getting advice here I tried to use System Restore and it was unsuccessful. At the time of that attempt, there were 4 or 5 restore points shown available.

Now, there are none, and when I try to create one I get the message:

The restore point could not be completed for the following reason:

The writer experenced a transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error may not occur. (0x800423F3)

Please try again.

This happens every time I try to create a restore point.

Regarding downloading,

I was going to try to improve my startup, which is slow and sluggish, but I can't download the file.

In my email, AOL, I can't download attachments. I can forward the mail to my Comcast email and it will let me download and read/save etc.

Any ideas of what to try?
