windows xp sp3 machine

all of this was originally installed on a gateway machine that the mother board failed. i had a shop transfer everything to a new custom pc about 2 years ago. the machine has never been right in my eyes. since the changeover i have always had a message to push F1 to boot, and had the screen say "CMOS checksum error, defaults loaded".

2 days ago after things go hairy an MBAM scan removed 4 problems. ive been experiencing some crazy instabilities in my computer since then:

after rebooting from the mbam scan, i rebooted again and windows installed 112 msft updates.

it will randomly reboot when it's sitting idle, and display the "win has recovered from serious error" message when restarted.

computer becomes very unstable when watching youtube. videos will skip back to the beginning, error out before loading or the machine will reboot. with a "recovered from serious error" message when restarted.

it will reboot when using win media player

randomly it will not connect to the router (cannot even use "ipconfig /renew" command) until restart. wired connection.

randomly it will lose connection to the audio device, a focusrite 18i6. until reboot. usb2.0 connection.

i use this computer mostly for audio recording in cubase and basic internet needs. i was in the middle of producing some music and i've lost my DAW, this is really hurting me right now, so any help you guys have would be appreciated.

Any further info or scans/reports needed just ask. thanks in advance

Listed max operating temperature range for CPU is 49-71 Celsius.  I think I had that CPU and my experience with AMD CPUs is that they are overheating if the temperature crosses 50 Celsius.  Your current temp is 54 Celsius.  Other Opinions.

Generally speaking...Intel CPUs tend to have a higher range before recognizing overheating situations than AMD CPUs.  I've had nothing but AMD CPUs since my first computer purchase (1996), which was an Intel.

Overheating causes a variety of problems and I believe that's what should be addressed.

You have Daemon Tools processes running...DT has been known to cause system problems.

You also have Nero InCD installed, known to cause problems, see http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/137326/neros-incd-causes-problems-for-xp-pro/ .  I would uninstall that portion of Nero 7.

Why is Hijack This installed?  Have you had/suspected malware problems?  If so, when?

You have Open Office and MS Office installed...one is unnecessary.

Your AV version is outdated, current version available at http://www.avast.com/index .

I suggest addressing the possibility of system overheating...then running the chkdsk /r command on the Windows partition.  The listed errors via MiniToolBox...don't point to anything in particualr, IMO...which would drive me toward system overheating or malware.  I see no indication of hard drive problems.

I will move this to Internal Hardware where the more knowledgeable can advise you re the possibility of overheating and steps that you can take to overcome such.

Louis

I don't remember what daemon tools was being used for. probably something to do with oracle virtual box install of linux mint.

Daemon has been uninstalled.

Nero 7 has been completely removed.

hijack this was installed for malware removal on another forum 3 years ago.

i had a malware problem as listed in the original post Sept 3rd. I ran MBAM removed 4 items. here's the log incase it's helpful:

another symptom, that should have been in my original post was 1 incident where my dual monitors switched places on a reboot. suddenly the left was right and right was left. settings couldn't fix them, i had to physically rearrange the monitors on my desktop and put all my icons back where i like them.

If I were you, (assuming you have all of your various software installation disks), I'd save any files you want to keep somewhere other than "C" drive, then wipe "C" drive and do a reinstall of everything.

I can't remember the last time i've seen a real XP disk.... back in the day I would have already tried a "dirty install" right back over the drive but it seems msft is intent to make physical copies obsolete.. I have seven windows computers in this house, NONE came with a real xp disk. just factory flash. unfortunately this machine doesn't even have that.

I just bought a REAL original XP-PRO disk last week. Cost me $ 110.00, but the downside is it is an "UPGRADE" disk, so I guess i'll have to install WIN98-SE on my new machine, then "Upgrade" to XP.

Might mention that one program well worth having is "CloneCD". This is a program that can copy CDs perfectly, and if the CD being copied has "Anti copying software" embedded in it, "CloneCD" does a perfect copy of that too. I have "CloneCD3" and "CloneCD4" but the company that produced "CloneCD" is no longer in business, as pressure from various "Software CD producers" put them out of business.
