I have had TFC by Old Timer for a long time and have never had any problems until today.  It is hanging on starting. For some reason , Microsoft Security Essentials is not shutting down. I tried disabling real time protection but that did not work. Anybody have any ideas on what could be causing this?

If you're also having issues with MSE, then I doubt there is a problem with TFC.

Since this just started, have you tried using System Restore to return to a previous state before the problems began?

The problem that I am having is that Microsoft Security Essential will not shut down when I start TFC. I know that TFC shuts down all running processes, so it is hanging because MSE is not shutting down

What happens if you temporarily disable Microsoft Security Essentials?

Or run TFC in Safe Mode.

Hi -

If all else fails, Uninstall your version of TFC (that should be loaded to desktop) and Reinstall it -

There are plenty of links to reinstall it in Am I Infected or Malware Removal areas

Do not have a quick link here (on another computer) -

Thank You -

EDITED to add install link - Download TFC, or Temp File Cleaner by Old Timer to Desktop

The same thing. It still hangs.
