Hi everyone!!!!

I am a regular here(thank goodness!)but my experience is less than 3mos for those of you who do not know me.....I recently installed Secunia PSI 2.0 on my Windows XP(I have WinPatrol,SuperAntiSpyware,SpywareBlaster,MalwareBytes & MS Essentials)everything has been running fine & reasonably fast,I never used MSIE so I removed it as it kept showing error msgs, removed Winfax Pro(dont have fax or printer)and removed Logitech).....Im not really sure but it must have something to do with one of the programs I removed ....all of a sudden when I go to start and click on shut down it takes quite a few minutes before I get the pop up that asks me if I want to shut down etc...           What did I do now???

I tried to look in the different posts and tutorials before starting this new topic so I do hope I have posted appropriately as I really could not find this problem....alot of slow starts & slow finding files or programs but not JUST SHUT DOWN?

I did try system restore from before I removed anything but it said it could not perform this task because nothing has been changed?

Can somebody help me please,I just don't know what to do?

                                                                          Oops!!!!!

I'm not a helper -- But I can help you pretty much if it's a case of malware (since I'd like to consider myself as a senior analyzer,I'm very familar with tools like OTL,MBAR and Combofix,I can write scripts to backup and restore or delete certain files for Combofix etc. though I don't want to become a helper, for personal reasons, one of them is I'll unable to help as soon as the thread has started) -- First of all, backup your registry using Tweaking's Registry Backup Tool and create a fresh system restore point (delete all previous points)

After that, all you've to do is a run scan with GetServices and post the log here

I think programmes were not deleted correctly, leaving behind orphaned files, drivers and more importantly registry entries; resulting in sluggish shutdown.

Please go further in system restore points; e.g. when you installed secunia. Once you get the programs back, remove them with Revounistaller free edition:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Its a powerful prog.; be careful when using.

Registry Keys won't slow down that much -- Plus OP said she can't use restore points

I did try system restore from before I removed anything but it said it could not perform this task because nothing has been changed?

Can somebody help me please,I just don't know what to do?

Okay Potato,

I am too new and scared to use all that "be careful'' stuff like the revouninstaller(but thank you SpYCatcher).......I don't have time today but I will be back to begin the external link you provide....is this harmful to anything(meaning can"I' mess it up somehow & then if you wouldn't mind I would like to get back to where I was before I thought I knew what I was doing(lol-deleting programs)....and I dont know what a screenshould is?So you are saying I should go back to before I installed Secunia, correct?

Maybe you wouldn't mind breaking it down even simpler for me to comprehend(I really want to understand)....Oh,and all my anti-spyware & anti -malware stuff is up to date and clean reports(and I still have no clue how tom use WinPatrol-maybe I deleted something there?)

Ok,I will try to be back ASAP.......TY,Kwik

Get Services is a scanner tool that will scan for active services, and MBAM etc. are basic tools that will remove a general malware. They can't remove rootkits. However,Malwarebytes' Anti-Rootkit,Roguekiller,Combofix etc. are toolsfor that.

I want to see what services are running and if neccessary look deep into your system for all Registry,Drivers etc. information. And nope just do a Registry Backup from Tweaking.com's tool and create a system restore point after  doing a backup

Edit : ignore my posts. A mod will help you. My help was supposed to be temporary

You can always use IE for the download :)...it's part of Windows.

I'm never in a hurry for info so don't think that a response is expected right away.

That's it :)!!

I can't take credit for the directions...the entire writeup on Speccy is provided via the courtesy of another BC Staff member who is very well-versed and reliable.  I just post the link :).

I'll take a few minutes to review everything and then post.

Louis
