What have I done? It looks VERY BAD

Was working on my Desktop. screen flikers then puter locks downs, only way to restart was to manualy power down. when I powered back up this was what I got.

 

Blue scren with the following in the top left corner>  Stop Registry file failure

                                                                                 

                                                                                 Registry cannot load hive (fail)          

                                                                                 system\system32\config\software

                                                                                 or its lost or alternate

                                                                                 it is corrupt, absent or not write able

                                                                                 Beginning dump of physical memory

                                                                                 Physical memory dump complete.

 

I do have a WD (Passport) back up. I've just started this semster in school. (I'm on my Laptop now) can anyone help or is my computer headed to the shop?

If you still need help, could you please tell me what version of Windows this is and if it is XP or Vista, if you have an installation CD.

Thanks fo for the interest and sorry I haven't gotten back with the results of this very bad experience. I carried my DT to the shop and since the person that owns it and I have done business for a while he opened it while I was there and pulled the HD. We connected it to another as a slave and still nothing. It was as if the HD was brand new and blank with absolutely no info on what so ever, he tried for about 30-45 min.'s and still nothing. The really bad part was we couldn't find out why. So instead of taking a chance with the HD we replaced it and I carried it home hooked up my Passport, reloaded from my backup and went back to work. God, I love my Passport. Thanks for checking on me, I do appreciate it very much.
