Recently I have had an issue with my computer running very poorly.

First, when opening Chrome it takes much longer than usual just to load the home page. The home page is an AVG Safe Search version of Chrome, not sure what that is about. Also, when opening a link it takes extremely long to load, and sometimes needs to be refreshed to get the page to load.

I have also developed a problem with the computer freezing while playing certain games. Most recently both Hawken and Farcry 3 have frozen, requiring a hard reset. I built this computer as a gaming PC, and it should be adequate to play these games without these issues. I've tried playing with the graphics on the lowest settings, and still have the same issues.

Please let me know what information you need to help me.

Thanks in advance for your help and expertise,

-Sean

Edit: I also just noticed an "AVG Coupons" little pop-up in the lower right corner of the screen.

hello, lets start with these.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop.
  • Extract (unzip) its contents to your desktop.
  • Open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory (usually C:\ folder) in the form of TDSSKiller_xxxx_log.txt. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
  • >>>
  • Last run ESET.
    • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
    • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png icon on your desktop.
    • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
    • Click the Start button.
    • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
    • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
    • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
    • Scan potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
    • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
    • When the scan completes, click List Threats
    • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
    • Click the Back button.
    • Click the Finish button.
    • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

Hello there! Thank you for the response.

I did have a friend that knows his way around a computer clean it up a little bit. He did some registry cleaning and said there were were quite a few entries for "Isearch" that he was unable to delete. Since then, I haven't had any issues, but I do want to make sure there is no longer a threat and get my computer back to running how I know it can and should.

Ok, it should be a 30 min max run.
Stop it and rerun.

You need to update to adobe reader XI

It actually ran for over 4 hours, but it finally completed. I will edit it into the above post.

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
  • After the scan has finished... <-insert any special instructions here for what to uncheck OR remove this line if there are none->
  • This time click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

Hello, you still have file corruption, see how it is after this.....

Please run SFC (System File Checker)
Please run System File Checker sfc /scannow... For more information on this tool see [url="http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43051.html"]How To Use Sfc.exe To Repair System Files
NOTE for Vista/WIN 7 users..The command needs to be run from an [url="http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial167.html"]Elevated Command Prompt.Click Start, type cmd into the Start/Search box,
right-click cmd.exe in the list above and select 'Run as Administrator'
You will need your operating system CD handy.
Open Windows Task Manager....by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
Then click File.. then New Task(Run)
In the box that opens type sfc /scannow ......There is a space between c and /
Click OK
Let it run and insert the CD when asked.

I haven't really played games or anything on it since I ran that scan.

I'll keep an eye on it the next few days.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I've been really busy with work.

I had it freeze up and crash on me while playing Diablo III just now, so I still seem to be having that issue. The malware/spyware/whatever seems to be cleared up.
