  Hello All
Computer is a Dell XPS 9100, Win 7 64 bit ultimate. New in April 2011 Has all the Dell warranties offered
I have done McAfee full scan, MBAM and ESET online. Nothing found by first two ESET found JS/Tivo but it was in an old file from a former computer. Also I see this can be a false positive.Quarantined and removed anyway.
This is the computer I use for my small business. Self employed, no IT department, ( except me)I have been very protective of it. No games are played ( Wife sometimes does Solitaire)
I typed a longer version of my problem but thought it might be too much. Have had Blue screens, Black screens and total freeze ups. Been worse the last two weeks.
Dell Techs have updated graphics drivers and reinstalled BIOS. Also did hardware tests of the graphics card and checked the HD for errors ( OK).
Worked flawlessly from Friday till Tuesday. Then COM surrogate errors.
Bringing it out of hibernation this morning was fine.
It went into sleep mode after the normal 20 minutes and would not wake up when I moved the mouse.Had to power it off. As I type this I am waiting for the RAID system to finish "verifying and repairing" . It does this when a hard shutdown has occurred.Probably a couple more hours. Also now the cursors is jumpy and lags. Intention is to do another restart after it is finished in the hopes that it will be usable.
Last conversation with Dell indicated that at this point they want to do a fresh install. I count on this machine for my daily business. Doing a reformat is going to be a major disruption and if it turns out to be a hardware problem after all I will be majorly upset.
I guess at this point I am looking for comments or suggestions to talk to Dell about. As it is under full warranty I do not want to interfere with their efforts.point.

Input will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Nawtheasta

Hi Louis

The Dell techs ran the diagnostics. Found no problems. I apperciate their efforts but they don't seem to want ( or can't) dig too deep.Once diagnostics were ran and drivers updated their next course of action seems to be to want to reinstall the operating system.

This morning once the computer had the RAID system back I did a shutdown and a restart. Shutdown took a long time, 20 min. Once restarted it seems to be running OK.

I count on this too much though to have it crashing all the time. For now I have turned off sleep and hibernation. Problems mostly seem to occur when it is waking up.

I did an image last weekend but that may contain the same problem. I am going to copy all important files and pictures this evening in case a reinstall becomes inevitable.

Comments and advise are appreciated.

Best Regards

Nawtheasta

Computer has been running fine with sleep set to never. I suspect that possibly the Dell popup that keeps trying to make me upgrade could be corrupted. It does not come up like it use to but I saw a lot of it mentioned in the event viewer from yesterdays delayed shutdown. I will show the text here. Opinions are welcome!

Hi Louis  August 31, 2013

Computer ran fine all day yesterday 8/30. Used Word , Quick Books all programs I normally use.

Kept it on continually. Only shut off monitor overnight.

Before going out for the day this morning ( 8/31-13) I shut down the computer. Restarted it normally after 5:00 PM ran Ok for a short time then Blue screened. Blue screen listed an uncorrectable hardware error in the few seconds I had to read it. After it restated itself it showed a report listing:

Local ID 1033

BCC Code 124

BCP1 ( Many zeros, ending with the number 4)

I have not done another restart. Seems to be running OK now.

Again I should mention that as this is under full Dell warranty and I cannot do anything that would

jeopardize that. I would make them aware of any significant changes you may suggest.

I really count on this computer to run trouble free.

Your review and advise is greatly appreciated!!!

Info On STOP 124 Errors

The fact that it's presumed to be a hardware error...and Dell has already been involved in the troubleshooting process (and system is under warranty provisions)...I'd just pass on the data/info in this topic to Dell and request they either diagnose and correct...or otherwise eliminated the problem via replacement.

One thing that I find odd...is the data reflected for your hard drive.  Nothing useful re manufadcturer/model...doesn't support SMART.  No such manufacturer as ARRAY0 for hard drives and "array" normally refers to a RAID configuration.  I'd ask Dell about that.

Louis

Hi Louis  September 1, 2013

Thank you for your response. I had a similar Blue screen at start up  today, 9/1, Local 1033, BCC 124 , etc.

I ran a new Mini Toolbox report and have attached it to an E Mail I have sent to Dell.

Regarding the ARRAY0. I am not sure what to say about this. The computer has a RAID configuration.

It is supposed to be configured so that the hard drives are mirror images of each other, RAID 1, I believe.

I thank you again for your advice. I would request that this topic stay open in the event I need to ask a few questions based upon the response I receive from Dell.

Thanks and Best Regards

Nawtheasta

To have a RAID....you need two distinct hard drives.

I only see data for 1 hard drive.  What makes you think that there are two?

You can easily check the number of physical drives attached...by looking in Disk Management.  Start/Run...type diskmgmt.msc and hit Enter.  Take a screenshot and post same.

Hi Louis

I ordered the RAID 1 system when I ordered the computer from Dell. At the time the tech advised that they had just started offering it.

  Here is the Screen shot.

I hope that the RAID 1 system is configured correctly

Thanks again for your advice. Please let me know if there are any questions.

Best Regards

Is that the screen shot from Disk Management?

Hi Louis   September 2, 2013

In my previous post I had double clicked the RAID icon in lower right tool tray ( Intel Rapid Storage Technology) and took a screen shot of what came up.

Here is a screen shot for diskmgmt. I believe that this is what you requested.

Doesn’t the computer “see” the RAID 1 system as a single drive?

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks and Best Regards

P.S. After posting I see that the image may be hard to see. Advise if you would like me to try and make it bigger.

Well...the screenshot from Disk Management reflects one hard drive attached, which has two partitions...a flash drive...an optical drive.

Your Speccy data clearly states that there is no RAID detected...and also reflects one hard drive.

If you are trying to employ RAID settings in the BIOS and only have a single hard drive...I suspect that might cause system problems.

But...this ballgame belongs in the hands of Dell and...I would think that they are capable of seeing what I see and offer you an explanation that is more detailed and correct than mine.

Hi Louis

Thanks for the info. In regards to RAID 1,I just know what I ordered and expected. I will double check with Dell to be sure.

Dell did call today.I sent them the latest Mini Tool box report along with a link to this topic.

After they reviewed the info. they still feel that a fresh install needs to be the next step. Said the BCC 124 code is not necessarily hardware and they cannot tell until they have addressed any possible software issues.

I guess at this point I need to do what they advise although before I do this I may just go and get an IMAC.

I am just loosing confidence in Win 7 and have not been put at ease about what I read about Win 8. Several friends that have Macs have been pretty satisfied.

Thanks again for your input. Please keep topic open for a while in case other issues pop up.

Best Regards

Nawtheasta
