My Windows 7 Home Premium OS will not install any items at all. An infinite number of errors appears, the most frequent being: Error! Can't initiate plug-ins directory. Please try again later. OK.  or one of various: Setup was unable to create the directory C:\Users\User\ AppData\Local\Temp\ ... assorted items... Error 5: Access is denied. OK. It also stopped updating the Windows updates.

I have tried about a dozen or more fixes, including clean boot, Malicious Software Removal Tool, the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe), HitmanPro, System Restore, AOL ComputerCheckup, etc. Most fixes will not install either. I believe that the problem is corrupted or missing files in registry, but have no idea which or how to fix.

When I opened elevated Command Prompt, and I executed Step 1:

Step1: To determine which files could not be repaired by the System File Checker tool.

Follow these steps:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

    • Open an elevated command prompt as described in the previous step 1.
    • At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

Note

The Sfcdetails.txt file contains details from every time that the System File Checker tool has been run on the computer. The file includes information about files that were not repaired by the System File Checker tool. Verify the date and time entries to determine the problem files that were found the last time that you ran the System File Checker tool.

    • type sfcdetails.txt in Search programs and files, and then press Enter.

      Command Prompt shows:

C:\Users\User>findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

C:\Users\User>findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"sfcdetails.txt in Search programs and files

FINDSTR: Cannot open in

FINDSTR: Cannot open Search

FINDSTR: Cannot open programs

FINDSTR: Cannot open and

FINDSTR: Cannot open files

C:\Users\User>

Can anyone familiar with this problem offer a solution?

I was going to say try a system restore but you have tried that.Sounds like a computer virus.Try asking in the malware section on this forum as they are pretty handy over there. Also keep checking back here too. It cant hurt.
