Hi there team,

i recently had an ugly run in with some malware and other evil virus's .

I had some friends who were self proclaimed gurus give me some help, some many many hours later things were going from bad to worse!

I posted http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/504700/made-a-real-hash-of-ithelp/#entry3135440

and got a good bit of help however it looks as if for some reason i am unable to connect to the net.

the last bit of advice prior to being told to ask you guru's was

Reset your modem, press RESET button

Click [Start] - Click [Run...] - type: cmd, Click [OK]
-
At the prompt (c:\.....>) type: ipconfig /release, press [ENTER]
-
At the prompt (c:\.....>) type: ipconfig /renew, press [ENTER]
-
TEST: Open Web Browser: Connect to Internet.

to which i posted

and it gave a responce of "the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"

looking atthe device manager the modem tells me that "device is working properly"

is there another diagnostic program that i could run to help work out what evil has befallen my ailing laptop?

and here i am! So any help to get me back on line to remove the rest of the nasties would be extremely greatfuly recieved!!! I miss my old laptop!!!!

Open a command prompt on Start search box by typing cmd, enter. Type the highlighted items below and press Enter.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults -> netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults -> netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart the machine.

Please post the computer model next time along with a new Minitoolbox and FSS logs.

It seems your network adapters are not present from the Minitoobox logs as Interface list and IP configuration does not recognize them. Have you tried checking the LAN adapter properties IP and DNS address is on automatic or DHCP? Make sure they are set to automatic. Then run the network reset in cmd as suggested.

Thank you jhayz, if only i was 100% sure what you just said actually meant :) (im slightly more computer savy than a brick!)

Am i correct in the following i checked the Internet Protocol Version 6 settings and both the IPv6 address and the DNS server address are both obtained automaticly?  as are the TCP/IPv4

Ive looked at the wireless Network conection icon in the Network Connections folder and it says enabled, however all i have in the bottom right corner is the connection icon with a blue circle going around and around??

i will run the network reset in cmd again and see if that has any effect this time!

The IPv6 can actually be untick for both LAN and wireless adapter on Properties. The concerns is the IPv4 properties wired/wireless is on DHCP and automatic then run the winsock reset. I was also thinking that the adapters are bad or faulty.

Not sure about the connection icon, but do you mean in the system tray and status icon when on wireless and wired?

My free antivirus of choice is 1. Microsoft Security Essentials, 2. Avast and 3. Bitdefender.
