Hello

I need some help with a Compaq PC using windows xp ( home).

The PC was fine last night. This morning I had a blank screen with a blinking cursor.

I shut the PC off and when it came back on I got the Compaq start screen for a second.

I tried Safe Mode but no luck.

Is there something simple I can try ?

I have a Western digital ( external) backup disk so I am assuming that I can recover my files on another PC

Thanks

T.

No error messages? Beeps?

It sounds like your hard drive is not being read.

Did you hear any unusual sounds when booting? Screaching sounds?

Open your computer, unplug the hard drive (the power and the data cable), plug it back in and try again. See if it boots this time.

Thank You

That worked. I hope this was a one time problem.
