I am clean of viruses...have already been cleared in the virus section and they suggested I come here for help.

Google Chrome will not let me select on pull down menus...I have to keep clicking till it will stay down for me to select.  When I do a search and look at a search then go back it goes back twice it wont let me go to my search results.  I am also having troubles with copy and paste...it wont stay blue for me to copy it.

I did do a fresh install of Chrome and Firefox per the virus section of this forum and it did not help so they sent me here.

Any help is appreciated.

Uninstall Google Chrome.

Move all favorites, etc. to IE.

Run chkdsk /r.  Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter.  Type Y in new screen, hit Enter.  Reboot.

The chkdsk /r will run and then boot into Windows.

Any problems using IE?

Louis

My request to use IE...is because I'm very familiar with it and I want to see if file corruption extends to it...or some other part of Windows.

If IE displays the same behavior as Chrome...it's a Windows problem, not a Chrome problem.

If you experience the same problems described in Firefox...it could also just be a case of browser damage.

Ok that did not take long...pull down menus are the same as in Chrome and Firefox. so it appears I am
having the same issues. So do you want me to proceed with the steps you described??

You have Spyware Terminator and Avast both installed...please uninstall one.  Spyware Terminator includes an AV aspect, possibly conflicting with Avast.

You have a problem with your Verizon software, constant hangs.  I'd uninstall it and reinstall, if you like.  See http://forums.verizon.com/t5/General-Residential-Products-and/Verizon-IHA-message-Thanks-for-using-100-resources-even-after/td-p/356963 .

Emsisoft Anti-Malware (Version: 6.0), I would uninstall this unless it's a paid version.  You have a zillion applications installed that theoretically help defend the system...but actually create problems because they are all trying to perform same/similar functions.  I would keep SUPERAntiSpyware and one AV program...and remove the others duplicating effort without any positive results.

And...you are running all these apps on 1GB of RAM...that's asking a lot.

I removed all the crap I had but it will not let me remove the verizon.  It gives me a message error message 1721..something with windows installer...then I clicked out of that and it gave me error message during installation..

Any installed program...can be removed.  Have you contacted your ISP for instructions on removing this...assuming that Verizon is your ISP?

I only suggest...it's up to you to execute or not execute those suggestions.

Hey Louis what is the best antivirus software??

There is no "best AV"...no "best antispyware", no "best firewall".

There are many of these products which do the job capably, some for free.

I have 3 systems...I use combinations of Windows firewall, SUPERAntiSpyware, and Microsoft Security Essentials/Avire Free.  In the past I have used Symantec products, Comodo products, Panda products, CA products, and various others.

There is no "best",..the situation is one where the product either works or it doesn't work...and whether it works is often up to the user and the care he/she exercises in using the product.  A defense mechanism which is not used or updated properly...is of little value.

In any case...you can visit the BC forum at AV & Antimalware Software...for opinions much more expert than any I can give :).

Louis
