Gateway ML3109 running xp64 wireless connection stopped working. Realtek RTl8185 configuration with WEP settings correct. Signal bar shows signal, but no connection to network. Looked in XP wireless connections settings & set WEP key there as well. No change. Tried different networks at different house. Same problem. Tried usb wireless adapter. Worked for initial connection, but upon PC restart, same symptoms. Occasionally, PC will finally connect to network, but rarely. Wired connection works fine.

Have you tried temporarily turn off WEP on the router and see if you can connect then?

I disabled WEP & tried to connect to wireless. No luck. Wireless connections show unsecured network available, but no connections.

What is the name/brand of your built-in wireless card for the laptop? The Gateway support site does not shows any XP realtek card.

Marvell Yukon 88E8038 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller and Realtek RTL8185 54M Wireless LAN Network Controller show up in th edevice manager in control panel under the Network Adapters category. The device manager has no errors showing in the Network Adapters category. This machine was downgraded from Vista (ran like a dog) to XP Pro. The Realtek adapter was functional since the downgrade using wireless setting and WEP codes.

Thanks,

FYI, the Realtek adapter started working tonight. I had deleted the Windows wireless connection and a new one was installed. Apparantly, this fixed the issue. I had tried the same configurations for the previous Wireless connection and had no success. Thanks for your time. I have restarted the PC multiple times and the connection continues to work.
