Dell dimension 5100 running Windows xp.  Computer suddenly became slow about a month ago and it's getting slower.  Have run many virus/malware scans (malwarebytes, superantispyware, adcleaner, rkill, roguekiller, combofix) and problem persists.  Takes 5-10 minutes from xp splash screen to start button/taskbar. Broadband speed on this computer is erratic (12 mbps possible - running at 1.5 mbsp this afternoon).  Please advise!

You can check your system drive to see whether it is full or not. Also, try to defrag your hard drive. That is the easiest way. However, if it is the computer internal problem, it is not an easy thing to solve that problem.

If you know or suspect that you have a malware problem...you should initiate a new topic and follow Steps 6-8 of the Preparation Guide, Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html .  This forum is not a forum for handling malware, see No DDS, HijackThis, or ComboFix logs should be posted in this forum. (XP) - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum-56/announcement-45-no-dds-hijackthis-or-combofix-logs-should-be-posted-in-this-forum .

ComboFix is not a tool to be used for non-malware issues.

There are any number of reasons for a "slow computer" which have nothing at all to do with malware, see Slow Computer-browser Check Here First; It May Not Be Malware - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic87058.html .

From what you've posted in your initial post...it's impossible for me to say that have or do not have a malware problems.  You can provide more details and help us make that decision.

The fact that you had symptoms "a month ago" doesn't help any determination made today of what might be wrong, IMO.

But first...we need to bet a topic posted in the correct forum.

If you initiate a new topic in the forum containing the Prep Guide...this topic will then be closed to avoid confusion and possibly conflicting suggestions, advice.

This is the second time I've seen this today.

Remove Bonjour service in safe mode. Might even chose to use Revo Uninstaller for a clean removal.

Edit: remove quicktime and shockwave while you're at it, you can put back on the latest versions after.

Now that you have a properly posted malware topic that is being worked...this topic is closed to avoid confusion.
