I started having a problem yesterday on all of my computers (desktop and two laptops). Some websites, such as Google, Yahoo, and Facebook, will load but almost everything else will not load. I'll get the "Problem loading page" message in any browser (Firefox, IE, Chrome).

Luckily, I am able to access a few computer help forums like this one and found people with similar problems. As had been recommended in those threads I tried downloading various programs for removing adware/spyware/viruses and cleaning the registry. I tried Adwcleaner, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and my AVG antivirus. A few threats showed up on each, but none of them appeared to be serious threats, and removing them did nothing to solve the problem.

If this is relevant, all of my computers run some form of windows (Vista, 7, and 8). I just had my modem replaced a few months ago, and I don't know how that would stop only certain websites from functioning.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.

Hi blorb and :welcome: to Bleeping Computer Forum :)

I started having a problem yesterday on all of my computers (desktop and two laptops)

This would confirm that it's with your ISP server connections problems on sites being block or loaded. Have you called them on the issue? See also the link below on how to ping websites not loading.

http://www.howtogeek.com/126265/how-to-troubleshoot-internet-connection-problems/

I was going to call them tomorrow, but I figured I would try to see if I could solve the issue before calling them and finding out it's just some malware or something.

I tried pinging some websites that I know will not open. When I tried MLB.com it said "Request time out" multiple times and then, "Ping statistics for 12.130.102.60: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0 (100% loss)." The same thing happened when I tried the website PhiladelphiaEagles.com

There are no orange lights on my modem, and the "Send" and Receive" lights are blinking occasionally. I tried resetting the modem by unplugging all cords and turning off the power strip multiple times throughout the day, and it did not help.

I tried typing in the IP address for the MLB.com website and the page remained completely blank.

Thanks a lot for your help. I will see what my ISP has to say if there's nothing else you can recommend.

Try removing AVG 2013 http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities download AVG 2013 32 bit removal tool and see if the problem persist. If the problem is resolved after removing AVG completely, download Free Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

Didn't solve the problem, unfortunately.

Thanks again for the assistance though.

Have experienced this previously and am sure they will be able to fix this. Let us know the results by posting back please. :thumbup2:

Spoke to my ISP and they said it's a problem with my router.

I guess I'll have to buy a new one.

Is it the router or modem? I presume you only have one network device as posted replacing the modem...

The router.

I didn't even think to connect my desktop or wire my laptops directly to the modem, and when I did the internet worked fine, so it has to be the wireless router that is causing the problem.

I tried changing the firmware of the router like some websites suggested, but it didn't resolve the problem.

Ahhh, Should have ask if you were only using ISP combo modem wireless router. :) Since there is a separate modem and wireless router, then it's clearly on your wireless connection probably being faulty. Have you tried resetting it to factory default and or toggling certain functions such as channel and wireless channel/mode?

I did reset it to the factory default but the problem has persisted. I'm not sure how to toggle the functions you mentioned though.

I went into my router's web page but I didn't want to mess around with settings I don't know anything about.

While connected on wireless,

Download MiniToolBox and open/run the program.
When open, checkmark or select all options then click Go.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

Please post the router model next time.

Netgear Router PDF Manual.

:step1: On Page 30, the wireless settings includes the channel and wireless mode. Try using g mode only and change channel lower than the default then check the difference. The problem could emanate from interferences but does not necessarily mean a hardware or router problem as already specified. Download and install a free trial  wifi inspector to be able to check the loaded frequency on nearby router signals and change to another signal http://www.xirrus.com/products/wi-fi-inspector.aspx

:step2: Try flushing your DNS cache by going to cmd prompt and type ipconfig/flushdns, enter.

:step3: Try changing also your DNS server address from auto obtain to open or google dns server addresses.

       http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/15037-dns-addressing-how-change-windows-7-a.html

:step4: Please run and update your Malwarebytes and use a quick scan then remove the threats and post the logs on next reply.

Download Adwcleaner by Xplode : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
Click on Adwcleaner and hit the Delete button. Copy and paste the result on your next reply.

      Download JRT by thisisu http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/
Make sure to disable your antivirus or any running protection softwares before running JRT to avoid interferences.
For Vista and Windows 7, right-click and Run as Administrator. In XP, double click JRT icon.
Please be patient and let the program finish scanning.
Once finish, a text document will open then copy-paste it on your next reply.
