Hi team, really hope someone can help. I realised i was in a bit of strif with some evil yucky stuff making my computer do some really odd things. Sadly i did what any niave unskilled computer person does and takes it to two mates that are self professed gurus. (Mistake No1)

Mistake number two is that i am now home after 10hours of saying i think we should stop now, and not actually getting either to actually stop!

initially i found i had malware and i was getting mixxed results from virus and malware removers.

Now, not only do i have a lot less programs but i now no longer have access to the internet as it is telling me "windows couldnt automaticly bind the IP protocol to the network adaptor" and ii still have trojans and the four apocolyse at my door!

sadly the laptop i have did not come with any disks as the software was already bundled on the system.

I tried doing restores up to the point it told me that there were none!

in a fit of dispear i fired up the old aspire and have managed to find this website and copy across some programs that may be able to shed some light on what if anything can be done to save my laptop.

Please note that the programs i was able to copy across were not able to update online so the results (Mbar-log is out of date) may not be great

Hello

first ..your winsock is damaged
Please Download this file, Click Me
Right-click on winsockfix.bat and click on Run as Administrator.

Go into Control Panel and uninstall
Java™ 6 Update 20 (Version: 6.0.200)
AVG 2012 (Version: 12.0.2221)
AVG 2012 (Version: 12.0.2634)
AVG 2012 (Version: 2012.0.2221)

Reboot

Now....
Please Download TDSSkiller
Launch it.
Click on change parameters-Select TDLFS file system
Click on "Scan".
Please post the LOG report(log file should be in your C drive)
Do not change the default options on scan results.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Delete.
Confirm each time with Ok.
You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Last run ESET.

  • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
  • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
  • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png icon on your desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
  • Scan potentially unwanted applications
  • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
  • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

First off thank you for your help in all this.

The link in relation to the winsockfix.bat points back to this post, but i guessed that you wanted me to use the Windows 7 version which i was able to find on this site. I ran the bat file and the little black box that poped up titled windows system32 cmd.exe ( i would use the backslash key if it would work!!!)

I uninstalled the Java application, I then attempted to do the same to the AVG files, i could only find AVG 2012 (Version: 2012.0.2221) this would not uninstall, i let it run for two hours, i cam back and the same message appeared "please wait untill the current program is finished uninstalling or being changed"

so i rebooted to see if the winsockfix helped, sadly no!

I ran TDS Killer

If normal uninstall/reinstall methods do not work, you can download and use AVG's uninstall/cleanup utility.

AVG Remover eliminates all the parts of your AVG installation from your computer, including registry items, installation files, user files, etc. AVG Remover is the last option to be used in case the AVG uninstall / repair installation process has failed repeatedly.

AVG Remover
AVG Remover downloads for 32-bit, 64-bit systems

If you still have difficulty uninstalling AVG, try using OPSWAT's AppRemover - supported applications list.

Try this for ESET..
Please click Start > Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the runbox and press enter.
Click the Connections tab and click the LAN settings option.
Verify if "Use a proxy..." is checked, if so, UNcheck it and click OK/OK to exit.

Try the winsock fix here, skip the free file viewer.

well i tried all the AVG removers as well as the Opswats AppRemover, its still there! AppRemover finds AVG happily enough, i tick the box and it has a think for a while and then says it encountered and erroe while attempting to uninstall the sellected product.

As to ESET, there does not appear to be a run box? have i the correct program? esetmartinstaller_enu as i agree to the terms, press start and it asks if i want to allow it to make changes to the computer which i click yes, it then has a box with either a tick box for using proxy settings Configure or start, neither allows

"Please click Start > Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the runbox and press enter.
Click the Connections tab and click the LAN settings option.
Verify if "Use a proxy..." is checked, if so, UNcheck it and click OK/OK to exit"

Winsock i install as administrator, then when i rebooted it can see the internet connection on the login page on windows, it then stopped with a AVG remover dialogue box WHAHOOOO AVG GONE!!!!!!!

still doesnt want to connect to the net!

We are getting there though!! :)

looking atthe device manager the modem tells me that "device is working properly"

is there another diagnostic program that i could run to help work out what evil has befallen my ailing laptop?

Would you please start a topic in Networking about Can't Connect... That will get us a fix faster than I can.

The path to the log file is "C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt" (on 64-bit systems this directory will be "C:\Program Files (x86)\ESET\Esetonlinescanner\log.txt"). You can view this file by navigating to the directory and double-clicking it in Windows Explorer, or by copying and pasting the path specification above (including the quotation marks) into the Start > Run dialog box from the Start Menu on the desktop.
