I have almost 20 gigs of pic's that I need to take off my desktop before it goes to the dump.

What is the best alternative to store these: cloud, such as Google Drive or buy an external harddrive?

My personal opinion is the external. Not a fan of leaving valuables in cyberspace.

For backing up, keeping a local copy and a cloud copy is best.  I keep a local copies and send my photos off to SkyDrive (To be renamed something else later) with my backups on Crashplan.

I use externals and BluRay disks. This computer I have a NAS with mirrored drives in it for extra security.

So everything is on a 1Tb Portable external and the NAS on this computer and on BluRay disks and a External on the other computer.

NAS explained: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network-attached_storage

Good Luck

Roger
