Howdy,

My CD/DVD Rom drive opens and closes but isnt showing up in windows. I know that it's a scummy generic brand one that says "A Open" as the brand on the front. Im guessing I need to re install it in windows but I don't know how. Any thoughs?

Hi Douchebag
Go here. Click "Win XP Fixes".
From the list on the right, 10th one down, click "Restore CD\DVD Drives to Explorer".
Read the instructions, download and run it then reboot.

OK Douchebag
Go here and remove the upper and lower filter values from the location specified in the article and reboot your system again. If the values don't exist, you've got a faulty hardware issue.

Have you checked for ad/spyware?

If the drive is detected in the bios in the boot sequence, check for adware/virii and the sony rootkit, er-- copy protection.
The name says it all -- 59 and holding permanently

Could be a loose or unattached IDE cable. Is it showing in the Device Manager?

Or try this one

Don't forget to back up the registry first.
