Hello,

I can't seem to find a solution online, and I'm thinking I may be infected with something that is preventing me from turning Windows Firewall on.

Here is the error message I receive:

Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings.

Error code 0x8007042c

I'm running Windows 8 Pro.

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 Pro from just normal Windows 8, so I'm not sure if that may have something to do with it. Also, I have Malware Bytes AntiMalware and Rootkits installed, but other than that I'm running Windows Defender. I've done scans with each of them, and nothing has shown up.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Scottie

I have also already taken the steps mentioned in this thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/492975/cant-start-windows-firewall-error-code-0x8007042c/

I can post the logs if needed.

Alright, so some new stuff.

I turned off/disabled Windows Defender prior to running windows repair. Now I can't turn it back on. When I try to turn it on through the action center, it just redirects me to the C:\Windows\System32 folder, and has the DRVSTORE subfolder highlighted. Not sure what this means.

As for the logs, here is rKill:

Download Windows Repair (All in One) from this site

Install the program then run it.

NOTE 1. In Windows Vista, 7 and 8 right click on the program, click "Run As Administrator".
NOTE 2. Disable your antivirus program before running Windows Repair.

Go to Step 2 and allow it to run CheckDisk by clicking on Do It button:

p22002979.gif

Once that is done then go to Step 3 and allow it to run System File Check by clicking on Do It button:

p22002980.gif

Go to Step 4 and under "System Restore" click on Create button:

It didn't work.

Next step would be repair installation: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26095-repair-install-windows-8-a.html
