Hi there. my daughters PC is running very slow & I believe she has some nasty stuff running somewhere. I have tried malwarebytes & her Mcaffe antivirus but its still the same. I have now run a HJT log which is listed below. As always your help will be greatly appreciated.

Update I also notice that it is also saying that her Windows is not a genuine copy, which is not true because this is what has come with the laptop??

Also I'm now getting a hard drive failure warning for the internal hard drive?? Is this complete disaster or is any of this recoverable??

Help please???

Welcome aboard p22002758.gif

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html/page__view__findpost__p__160520
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.
For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://storage.toshiba.com/storage-services-support/warranty-support/software-utilities#diagnostic

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here

Hi Broni, sorry but i'm having no luck with this? I have tried installing Sea Tools for Windows for the last 3 hours but with no joy. The machine is running so slowly ( 5-10 minutes to open a file) that is almost impossible.

The hard drive is a Samsung HM640JJ and I get the following error on start up -

SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: SAMSUNG HM640JJ-(S1)

WARNING: Immediately back-up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure maybe imminent.

Press F1 to continue

I have tried performing a back-up but the pc won't complete it??

Any other ideas??

Not good.

The only option would be to slave the drive in another computer (or use USB hard drive enclosure) and see if you can safe some data.

Hi Broni, thanks for the advice but I have relented & put the laptop in for a repair. Hopefully they can replace the hard drive & sort out the windows issue as well.

Thanks for your help.
