Last week, all of a sudden, I was not able to type addresses into the adress bar of IE6. After playing around with it I found that I could type in addresses only if I included the "http://" part of the url. I tried to remove and reinstall IE6 and now get an error message at startup saying that IE has been removed but it is still there and active.
Any ideas on what happened?

Hello,

I can't see anything malware related here.

Do you have this problem since you installed latest windows Updates from april 11?
The reason is because these latest updates are having some issues with HP products installed on your system.
Also read here for more information:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben...918165&x=9&y=11
As described in above article, one of the main problems is the addressbar problem as you are having.
There is a solution posted there - to edit the registry to fix it. But to make things easy for you, you can download this fix to solve your problem:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/hp.vbs
Download it to your desktop and doubleclick hp.vbs
Please let Norton Scriptblocking service allow the script, because it's not malicious.
