Hi there, Over the last several days, I've experienced a number of BSoD's. They have only occured while playing The Sims 3, and began only after I installed the latest expansion (Island Paradise). Prior to that, there have been no problems.

Below is the data from several minidump files to help assess the problem.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi Lapetus

Thanks for providing Speccy and Minitoolbox logs. Can you please upload the crash dumps for inspection ? . They will be located under C:\Windows\minidump folder. Copy all the dumps and zip them to a single file. You may have to disable User Account Control to copy the dumps. Analyzing the crash dump files will probably help us to identify the culprit.

Try this

The following is an excerpt from Microsoft Community.

This issue may occur if the Winsock registry keys are damaged or corrupted.

Method 1: Reset Winsock

Windows sockets settings may get corrupted due to the installation of networking software, or perhaps due to Malware infestation. Try resetting Winsock entries to its default installation.

Here’s how:

1.     Go to Start, type cmd and press Enter.

2.     Type: netsh winsock reset catalog in the command prompt and press Enter.

Method 2: Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults.

TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or corrupted. If you cannot connect to the Internet and you have tried the above method to resolve the problem, TCP/IP might be causing it.

Download and run the fix it from the link below.

How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series (ATI): 65 °C
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series (ATI): 49 °C

I'm a bit surprised in the temperature discrepancy but don't know if that's significant.

Triple channel board, but 4 modules installed, system running in dual-channel mode or single-channel?  I don't know if this is a problem, just a curious circumstance for me.

I see nothing on the Speccy that merits concern.

<<They have only occured while playing The Sims 3, and began only after I installed the latest expansion (Island Paradise).>>

Not sure what that means...but I would undo whatever you did.  Could be coincidence...could be cause and effect.  I'd vote for cause and effect, if this were my system.

Error: (07/28/2013 09:52:57 PM) (Source: Disk) (User: )
Description: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk3\DR3.

Error: (07/28/2013 09:52:56 PM) (Source: Disk) (User: )
Description: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk3\DR3
.

A bit confusing, because of the way that Windows and the motherboard... recognize drives.  It's clear that a drive has a problem....possibly a loose cable, possibly something more serious.  Harddisk 3 to Windows...not sure what that matches up with as far as the motherboard reports.  The motherboard goes by which drive is connected to a given motherboard slot, while I'm not sure what Windows reporting goes by.

I would check the connections (remove and reconnect) on each drive and see if the controller errors continue to appear.  I wouild also run the appropriate diagnostic on the hard drives, not the SSD.

Louis

Ignore all of the above, the gentlemen who posted while I was composing this...are far more knowledgeable and skilled than I could ever hope to be, follow their lead :).

OK, working through the posts as they appeared.

Anshad: Minidumps attached.

DC3; I have tried the first method you suggested. I suppose i'll wait and see if I get another BSoD.

Hamluis; Thanks for the advice. :)

Ok, just had another 2 BSoDs. These as well, while in Sims 3.

I've attached two new minidump files.

DC3, I tried both methods you suggested: I moved onto the second, even though I could still connect to the internet, but that didn't help either.

I don't want to send you guys off on a wild goose chase, but could my network card be contributing? The manufacturer (linksys) no longer provide support for it, and the driver is provided by the company (ralink) that make the chipset, not the card. I've read in a similar circumstance it was responsible, but in that case the BSoD's were intermittent rather than only happening while running a specific program.

But, like I said, you guys are the experts, I'll leave it to your experience to determine.

Hi

Every single dump you posted blames the same driver as the reason for crash.

BugCheck 1E, {0, 0, 0, 0}

Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\Lycosa.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for Lycosa.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for Lycosa.sys
Probably caused by : Lycosa.sys ( Lycosa+1c23 )

Lycosa.sys = Razer gaming keyboard driver.

Please try the below steps.

:step1: Unplug the keyboard.

:step2: Uninstall Razer Lycosa from Control Panel --> Programs.

:step3: Reconnect the keyboard. Install updated driver available from Razor site.

  http://drivers.razersupport.com//index.php?_m=downloads&_a=downloadfile&downloaditemid=1220

:step4: Uninstall Avast and replace it Microsoft Security Essentials.

Report your findings in next reply.

(etc.)

Windows won't let me use that driver you supplied. "Can't verify the publisher of this driver software".

I went to the razersupport website and found that file (v3.03) only supports Win8 not Win7. The one i had installed (v3.02) is the latest win7 supported.

Also, I uninstalled Avast, replacing it with Microsoft Security Essentails, as you suggested.

Hi

That driver package includes Windows 7 drivers but they are not digitally signed ( they are kind of beta version ) . Windows normally won't allow the installation of unsigned drivers..  That is the reason for the error message you are receiving. Since i don't have a Razer keyboard, it is impossible for me to test it personally. Try the below steps. It might work.

:step1: Unplug the keyboard and uninstall the currently installed keyboard driver.

:step2: Open an elevated command prompt.

1218d1239716938-elevated-command-prompt-

:step3: Enter the following command in the CMD prompt.

 Bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks ON

Now restart the system.

:step4: Now plug the keyboard and install the new driver. If you are receiving publisher not verified message, please click continue anyway. Restart the system when prompted and check how the game works.

If you continue to receive the blue screens, unplug the Razor keyboard and use a normal keyboard for testing. If you don't have a spare keyboard , try to borrow one from a friend. Make sure to uninstall the Razor drivers before plugging the new one.

That appears to have solved my problems.

I've had it running now for over 4 hours without a blue screen. Before I was lucky to go 10 minutes.

I will keep monitoring it though.

In the meantime, thanks for all your invaluable help Anshad. Also thanks to DC3 and Hamluis.

Monitor the system for a couple of days. I hope you won't see those nasty BSOD again  :)

which apps do you utilize to determine that tcpip.sys errors was related to his keyboard lycoca driver ?

It is Windbg or Windows debugger. Also the Professional edition of WhoCrashed is reliable ( Home edition doesn't use symbol resolution so not so helpful in most cases ).
