Hi

:welcome: to the Bleeping Computer form.

It looks like a memory compatibility issue to me. Please remove the old memory module and let the system run with only new module plugged. If the system works fine, purchase another same model module and add it to the PC.

Hi

Please repeat the test with old module. That is unplug the new one and only plug the old module. This will let us know whether the issue is really memory compatibility or something else.

Hi

Are you getting the same STOP 0x0000007F with both old and new modules ? . Did you try switching the memory slots ? . If you had done the memory test in slot one, please try slot two now. This will rule out the possibility of a bad memory slot.

If you are getting BSOD with both memory modules and both slots, please upload the crash dump files for analysis. Open C:\Windows\minidump folder and  copy all the files located in that folder. Zip them all to a single file and upload to a free file hosting site of your choice.

For example :

Post the download link to the dumps in next reply.

Hi

To resolve a blue screen issue, crash dump files are necessary. Please follow the below steps.

:step1: Set Windows to write small memory dump.

Boot the system in to safe mode. Now read the following article and set Windows to create a small memory dump in case of a crash.

http://blog.nirsoft.net/2010/07/27/how-to-configure-windows-to-create-minidump-files-on-bsod/

:step2: Reboot the system and wait for crash.

After you got two or more blue screens, check whether there are dumps created in the Minidump folder. If yes. upload them for inspection. If not, post a Minitoolbox log by reading the instructions below.

Download Minitoolbox from the below link.

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
-List users, partition and memory size

Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply

Hopefully we might get a clue from the event logs in the result.

Edit:

Can you confirm that you are getting BSOD with both slots and both modules ?

Please verify the health condition of your hard drive by running Manufacturer's diagnostic tools (bootable CD )

http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html

:step1: For Western Digital drives, use WD lifeguard diagnostics :  http://www.box.net/shared/gl0fifqgj4

Run "extended test" to verify full sectors.

:step2: For Hitachi drives, use Drive Fitness Test :

 http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/downloads/dft32_v416_b00.iso

Run advanced test with it.

:step3: For Seagate, Samsung, Maxtore and other brands, use Seatool for DOS :

http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/seatools/SeaToolsDOS223ALL.ISO

Run "long test" with it.

I recommend using Imgburn to write ISO to blank CD.

Report whether they detects any errors during the test. Also please specify the full model number of your Compaq system in next reply.
